31 Things I Love About Halloween: Horror Comics

In addition to movie marathons, my comics tastes turn exclusively to horror in October. Rather than revisiting old favorites though, I'm usually catching up on stuff I've never read before.

Right now I'm reading Charles Burns' Black Hole (it's as good and disturbing as everyone says it is) and my Amazon shipment should arrive tomorrow with the volumes I lack from Richard Moore's graveyard smash, Boneyard. That'll probably carry me to the end of the month, but if there's time, I'll catch up some on BPRD. I tend to like monsters and spooky/creepy stories rather than gory shock/splatter stuff.

What horror comics are you reading? What would you recommend for me to add to my stack?

I, Warren said...

I'm reading the DC Showcase "House of Mystery" and "House of Secrets" reprints (already made it through their "Secrets of Sinister House" volume. Not bad for a mainly gothic romance title!)

They're quite enjoyable, though I was surprised at how much reprint material from the 50's were in the stuff from the late 60s/early 70s.

It's pretty jarring to go from a macabre Fleisher/Wolfman/Wrightson "modern" story to a quaint 50s tale by Mike Sekowsky!
