Hellbent for Letterbox | Third Birthday and State of the Camp 2020
On a special, smaller episode Pax and I celebrate Hellbent's third birthday with a look back at what we covered in 2019, what we'd like to see on the show in 2020, and what we think of the films on the AFI Top 10 Westerns list.

Hey, guys! I really enjoyed your comments on the AFI's "Top 10 Westerns". Seriously, what were those guys at the AFI smoking when they made that list? I only agree with THE SEARCHERS as a pick. My Top 10:(alphabetically) 1.ANOTHER MAN, ANOTHER CHANCE 2.THE BIG COUNTRY 3.EL DORADO 4.HOW THE WEST WAS WON 5.LITTLE BIG MAN 6.MAN WHO SHOT LIBERTY VALANCE 7.OUTLAW JOSEY WALES 8.RUSTLER'S RHAPSODY 9.THE SEARCHERS 10. 3:10 TO YUMA (the original) Congrats on 3 great years (and surviving Cookie's chili) ! Happy Trails!, Gary R.
Thanks, Gary! As I thought about it earlier, I thought it super weird that AFI didn't include any of the Man With No Name movies.
Your list is great and turns me on to Another Man, Another Chance. I didn't know anything about that one, but James Caan is so good in El Dorado that I'm excited to see him in more Westerns. The only other one I remember of his is Journey to Shiloh (with super young Harrison Ford), but it's been ages since I've seen it.
It would be tough for me to pick a favorite Van Cleef Western, but Few Dollars More might be my favorite of the Dollars Trilogy. I'm super fond of Good Bad Ugly, but Van Cleef's character in FDM is way cooler.

I think of the Leone MWNN Trilogy, and if I picked one for the top 10, it would have been FOR A FEW DOLLARS MORE, my favorite Lee Van Cleef western.
