A Week at Sea: Octo-Samurai. We're screwed.

The Three Musketeers

By Mead Schaeffer.

I know that the Musketeers have absolutely nothing to do with the sea, but I tend to lump them in with other swashbucklers like Captain Blood, etc., so for me they're sort of second-cousins to pirates. And they did cross the English Channel a lot.

The Blue Fairy Book

By Frank Godwin.

Dead men tell lots of tales, actually

Animation background from The Rescuers.

Your 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea Picture of the Day

By Alphonse de Neuville.

Mer-man

By Matthew S. Armstrong.

Why my son will never be able to read my blog...

My boy's got a severe phobia of tentacles and suction cups. I think I'm developing one too after seeing this. But I appreciate Calvin for staying on the watchtower and letting us know what the Evil Cephalopodic Forces are up to.

Sous les Mers

20,000 Leagues Under the Sea Picture of the Week

By Édouard Riou. (Thanks to Dave Campbell for the link.)

Captain Nemo

Disney's working on a Captain Nemo origin movie directed by McG. Sounds like they're fast-tracking it too. My first thought is that I don't want to see a Captain Nemo movie where he spends most of it without the Nautilus, but I suppose there are other ways to make it exciting. I'm skeptical, but open-minded.

I Dive for Treasure

Via Pulp of the Day.

Voyage of the Dawn Treader

This is old news, but in case you hadn't heard, Disney's pulled out of financing the next Narnia movie, which would be the sea adventure Voyage of the Dawn Treader. That's disappointing to me because it has all the makings to be my favorite Narnia film: sea monster, merpeople, pirates, island monsters, and a heavy focus on Reepicheep the swashbuckling mouse. Hopefully they'll find other financing, but I'm not getting my hopes up.

The Red Tornado

Mermazons! Genius.

Golden Age Comic Book Stories has the full story (you gotta scroll down a bit for it, but it's worth it and there's other cool stuff in the link too).

The Awesome List: Monster Game Night

Friends with E.T.

San Francisco's Gallery Nineteen Eighty Eight is selling art prints of Scott Campbell's wonderful "Friends with E.T." series (thanks, /Film!). Click through to see E.T. also hanging out with Transformers, them Duke boys, and the Masters of the Universe.

It's especially nice to see him playing Hungry Hungry Hippo with the monsters though. Game Night with those guys is always a blast.

Poor Frankenstein.

Galactus' Happy Helmet

That sounded dirty, didn't it? Sorry about that.

The point is that I never realized that there was a face on Galactus' helmet until Kerry Callen pointed it out. What's more, he tracks it as it gets more and more giddy over Marvel's publishing history. I deliberately posted the earliest version. You've got to click through and look at the last image. I promise it's worth it.

Tiki Paintings

By Anthony Carpenter. There are a couple of more - just as good - at the link.
