Today would have been Edgar Rice Burroughs' 139th birthday, so Happy ERBday, everyone!

The last couple of weeks have been crazy, so I didn't have a lot of time for reading or posting, but the Bondathon will resume as soon as I finish On Her Majesty's Secret Service. Back into the groove now, so hopefully not too much longer.

It's been a busy weekend and I almost didn't get to this, but this year of all years I shouldn't miss honoring Edgar Rice Burroughs on his birthday. He would've been 138 today.

Robert Louis Stevenson would've been 160 today. Google even made a special logo for the occasion. Since it's probably a bit late to start planning your celebration, just interject a few good "Arrrs" into conversation wherever you are tonight.

Either that or drink a strange concoction and get wild.

Happy Daniel Boone Day

Daniel Boone was born on this day in 1734. Though he actually preferred beaver-skin caps to raccoon and would be 276, if he was alive today he'd still be the rippinest, roarinest, fightinest man the frontier ever knew.

Incidentally, cheerleading was also invented this day in 1898 at the University of Minnesota. See how cool Minnesota is?

Robot 6 turned one year old this weekend. And we got a couple of very cool birthday cards!

This one's by Mohammad F ("Hawk") Haque (Applegeeks), who's work I didn't know before, but plan to spend more time with from now on. That piece is so gorgeous and charming.

Today's the birthday of Phantom of the Opera author Gaston Leroux, born in 1868.

If all you know about the Opera Ghost is the cheesy musical... well, you're probably not reading this blog I guess. But seriously, if you've never read Leroux's novel, do yourself a favor and pick it up. It's even better than the Lon Chaney movie. And I love the Lon Chaney movie.
