TV News: Burn Notice vs White Collar vs Psych

Human Target in trouble? [UPDATED]

According to Michael Ausiello, FOX can only afford one underperforming show for next season and it's going to be either Human Target or Lie to Me. Human Target's my favorite new show from this season, so no secret which I'm rooting for. Ausiello explores each shows chances a little and seems to favor Lie to Me, but we won't know for sure until Monday (May 17) when FOX announces its Fall schedule. Get those fingers crossed. Updated: Never mind. Apparently, they're both safe! Woo Hoo!

The Event

Since The Class, Jason Ritter's become one of my favorite actors. He was really good in Peter and Vandy and - though I haven't seen it yet - I'm hearing great things about Parenthood (co-starring Lorelai Gilmore). Now he's got a new show at NBC with another Gilmore Girls star, Scott Patterson. Ritter plays a guy who investigates the disappearance of his fiancée and learns about a huge government cover-up. Patterson plays his would-be father-in-law who apparently has secrets of his own. Sarah Roemer (Disturbia, Fired Up!) plays the fiancée. [The Ausiello Files]

New Katee Sackhoff show: Boston's Finest

Katee Sackhoff is filming/has filmed a pilot for a cop show called Boston's Finest. According to Loaded Gun Boston, Sackhoff plays "a detective who teams with a disgraced ex-cop to solve crimes and untangle the conspiracy that sent him underground." Could be cool, I guess, depending on the characters. We'll find out next week if ABC picks it up.

More intriguing than that to me though is this article (again by Michael Ausiello) that talks about Sackhoff's career choices. She passed up a recurring, but ultimately temporary role on True Blood for the shot at an ongoing series gig in Boston's Finest. Which, fine, I haven't started watching True Blood yet, so I'm not disappointed. What I am kind of sad about though is that she gave up a freaking series on USA to be in this season of 24. I have no idea what her USA show would've been about, but as cool as Burn Notice, Psych, and White Collar are, I'm sure I would've loved it.

Speaking of USA shows

These are awesome.

TV News: Marvel monsters, Star Wars kids, and Natalie Morales

Super Monster Squad

John Rozum's writing an episode of Super Hero Squad that features Dracula, Man-Thing, Werewolf by Night, The Living Mummy, and Brother Voodoo. If the show's not already on your radar, you're missing out.

Star Wars: Galactic Heroes series?

Speaking of shows made from kids' toy versions of popular franchises, rumor has it that George Lucas wants in on that action with another Star Wars cartoon series. If it's anywhere near as fun as Super Hero Squad, I'll be a happy Star Wars fan, but I do wish he'd get working on that live-action drama he promised us. [IESB]

So long, Natalie. See you soon.

This is barely adventure-related, but it's a follow up to an item that was. When it was announced that Marsha Thomason was coming back to White Collar, I wondered if there'd be room for her and Natalie Morales (Middleman) both. Apparently there's not - which makes me sad - but Morales isn't completely out of work. She's scheduled for a series of guest appearances on Parks and Recreation.

TV News: Hawaii Five-O and White Collar casting; What's Getting Renewed?

Hawaii Five-O remake

Daniel Dae Kim has been cast for CBS' Hawaii Five-O remake series and my interest in it has just skyrocketed. Growing up, the best thing about that show was always the theme. Jack Lord was a cool man, but he overshadowed what could have been a great ensemble cast and he wasn't quite interesting enough to carry the whole show by himself. I'm hoping the new version (under the control of some Fringe and CSI:NY folks) will correct that.

Moonlight's Alex O’Loughlin will be playing McGarrett.

Marsha Thomason returns to White Collar

I've liked Marsha Thomason since Las Vegas, so it's always nice to see her pop up on shows like Lost and the pilot of White Collar. Oddly, she hasn't been back on White Collar since that first episode and - while I haven't been complaining about Natalie Morales' (The Middleman) apparently taking her place - I've kind of missed her. I'm guessing she made some other commitment after filming the pilot, but whatever it was, she must have fulfilled it because she's coming back.

I just hope there's room for her and Morales both. Morales doesn't get enough screen time on the show as it is.

What's (likely) getting renewed?

Entertainment Weekly's Michael Ausiello has the skinny on which network shows are likely to get picked up for another season and which aren't.

As far as the shows I care about go, Cougar Town, Modern Family, Big Bang Theory, and Glee have already been renewed. Ausiello calls Castle, Grey's Anatomy, The Mentalist, House, and The Office "sure things," while Chuck is a "safe bet."

He says that The Human Target could go either way, which makes sense because it's still new and it's on FOX. You know how those guys love to cancel shows.

Scrubs, unfortunately, is a long shot. That's disappointing. I've really taken to the new cast.

He's updating the list as info comes in, so keep checking back.
