LXB | The League's Ultimate Crossovers

Brian's posted the rest of the League of Extraordinary Blogger's responses about their ultimate movie crossovers and there are several that I'd pay big bucks to see on the big screen. The image above was created by Sideshow Cinema for an imaginary crossover that I cannot believe Dark Horse hasn't yet done. Other ones I want to be real are:
  • Memories of Toymorrow's goofy, fun mash-up of famous movie and TV bachelors competing for the affection of the cat from the Pepe LePew cartoons. I just can't decide if it's the ultimate romantic comedy or the ultimate horror film.
  • Branded in the 80s created a sequel to '80s movies that pitted kids against a sinister government: Wargames, Cloak and Dagger, and The Manhattan Project. In his version, the kids are grown and pulled into another plot in which they have to prevent World War III. (In his comments section, a reader talks about his idea for a Dukes of Hazzard/Knight Rider crossover that would also be awesome.)
  • Tupa's Treasures has three cool ideas, but my favorite is combining the casts of the two Raiders of the Lost Ark TV knock offs: Tales of the Gold Monkey and Bring 'Em Back Alive.
  • Speaking of Raiders, AEIOU and Sometimes Why would love to see Indiana Jones meet the Doctor. And so would I.
  • The Man Who Stares at Toys sold me on his idea for Wookiees and Klingons teaming up to fight Xenomorphs.
  • Dave Lowe wins at life by coming up with Indiana Jones' exploring King Kong's Skull Island.
There are a lot of cool ideas out there though, so check out Cool and Collected for the whole list, including Tombstone meets Deadwood, and Batman vs Ace Ventura.

Awesome List: Tons of Indy stuff, League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, Bourne 4, and more

Shia LaBeouf: Awesome or Not?

I was wondering the other day about who today's Hollywood superstars are. With Tom Cruise all out of favor, who are the Harrison Fords and Bruce Willises of modern times? Russell Crowe maybe? Brad Pitt. Angelina Jolie.

I was also trying to figure out who the new action stars are. Who are today's Schwarzeneggers and Stallones? Jason Statham, obviously. Maybe Matt Damon. And seeing stuff about Eagle Eye is making me wonder if Shia LaBeouf isn't on his way to becoming the next blockbuster king. Part of me is rebelling against that idea, but I don't know why. He was awesome in Crystal Skull.

It makes me wonder though. What's the general consensus on Shia? Do we love him or are we tired of him already? And if I'm missing any other modern superstar actors or action stars, let me know that too.

Indy pocket watches

Speaking of Indiana Jones, I think I've found my new timepiece. I love that airplane logo.

And here it is on a hat

Getting one of these too.

Indiana Jones vs. Gallagher

Staying on the subject of Indy, wouldn't you like to play a game where he has to fight watermelon-smashing comedian Gallagher? The correct answer is: No, you really wouldn't. Turns out, it's a lot more fun to think about than it is to actually play.

Japanese Indy fan

I don't know why I think a young, Japanese girl reading an Indiana Jones book is so cool, but I totally do.

Indy fonts

Wrapping up our Indiana Jones links: I bet the last thing you thought you'd see today was a scholarly look at the fonts on the travel maps in the Indiana Jones movies, wasn't it?

The Amazing Telectroscope

Did you know there's a secret tunnel running deep beneath the Atlantic Ocean that miraculously allows people to see right through the Earth from London to New York and vice versa? Kung Fu Rodeo took some pictures of it.

League of Extraordinary Gentlemen: Century

No word on whether it will include secret tunnels running below the Atlantic, but Alan Moore has some details about the next League of Extraordinary Gentlemen series starting at the end of the year from Top Shelf.
It’s as if we feel freed from the conventions of boys’ adventure comics, and so it’s a lot more atmospheric, it builds to a tremendously bloody climax, it’s a slow build. We’re thrilled with it. It’s got some songs in it, it’s a musical.
I think I'm going to miss the boys' adventure angle, but we'll see. Moore also says it's going to be a three issue volume with each issue being 72 pages.

More Matt Damon Bourne

IESB interviews Frank Marshall and Tom Crowley and gets some skinny on the fourth Bourne movie (which was apparently announced months ago). Bourne's going to South America and they're shooting for a 2010 release.

Knight Rider GPS

With KITT's voice (the St. Elsewhere KITT; not the Val Kilmer one).

Adventureblog Theater: Cartoon Hoff and Magnum, the eyes of Jessica Alba, Raiders of the Lost Toy Box, Tiki music, and a maraca-wielding monkey

"Michael (Jump In)"

A cartoon music video featuring Michael Knight and Thomas Magnum. Awesome.

(Thanks, Bully!)

Jessica Alba beats you

You totally can't beat Sue Storm in a staring contest.

(Thanks, Kung Fu Rodeo!)

Raiders of the Toy Box

The truck chase scene from Raiders. Re-enacted with action figures.

(Thanks, Topless Robot!)

"Da Da Da Da"

Awesome Tiki music video.

(Thanks, Kevin Church!)

Samba de Amigo

Topless Robot asks the timeless question: what would you do if a monkey with maracas rang your doorbell?

Awesome List: Batman vs. pirates, maps, the new Knight Rider show gets cooler, and more

New Batmobile

Topless Robot has the correct reaction to the new Batmobile:

I can't imagine the Bat-rims are part of his intimidating criminals and so forth, because frankly, they're ridiculous. All custom rims are ridiculous. No decent criminal would think a man driving a car with custom rims should be feared; they'd think he's a douchebag. If I saw a car whose rims all said "Steve" on them, I'd assume a guy named Steve drove the car, and that Steve was a huge dick.

So is Batman feeling his age? Is he trying to get down with the kids? Is this Robin's fault? Was he minutes away from putting neon underneath the car, and decided on the rims instead?
Doctor Who theme remixes

Whomix is so Awesome.

Piltdown

There's only one thing better than dinosaur comics: FREE dinosaur comics!

BioShock movie

I'm not a videogamer, but I've always loved the design of BioShock and a movie made from it sounds excellent. Especially one directed by Gore Verbinski.

Mapping the Mysterious Island

I love it when people with more time than I've got spend it making things I love.

Batman vs. pirates

If you don't know about The Daily Batman yet, here's an excellent example of why you should.

More new Bond pics

Can be found here. Some small, potential spoilers there, I guess.

Indiana Jones makes everything better, continued

Desktop icons.

Literature maps

Gnod has come up with a fun tool to help you discover new writers based on the writers you already know you like. You decide who you want in the center of the map and the program does the rest. The closer two writers are on the map, the more likely you'll dig them both.

New Knight Rider show back to drawing board, sort of

New Showrunner Gary Scott Thompson promises to up the Awesome when he and his writers turn the new Knight Rider pilot into an actual series.
We sort of had to backpaddle, and the good thing about what they did - and by the way I had nothing to do with the 2-hour (movie), I was brought in afterwards to do the series - the good thing about what they did with it is they left it almost a blank slate. There are a few things, but everything that was there we can either fill in and embellish or basically discredit in some way and say no that's not the truth. Actually that's open very well for us mythology-wise. One of the things we're going to play with is Mike's military background, and there's a couple of little secrets in there that I'm not going to reveal to you right now, but there's some fun stuff. And then the other thing we're doing too is just the car- I really want this car to be super cool and super hot. We've gone back in and we're really redesigning the whole Attack Car, and that's going to be a big secret we're going to hang on to as long as we can (laughs), exactly what the car can and can't do.

...This has to be super cool. And it has to be super cool every week. And there has to be really cool gadgets, and technology-wise, we're at a level where stuff should be way beyond what we're seeing now, and that's where we want to go.

Spaceman Circumstances

Star Wars 1942

This idea is really long overdue when you think about it.

Out with Flash Gordon; in with Knight Rider

Really neither Flash Gordon's cancellation nor Knight Rider's being picked up as a series should come as a surprise.

GalaxyQuest comics

I don't know if this can capture the Awesomeness of the movie, but I'm sure gonna find out.

Larklight

For those of us who like the steampunk movies but were a tad disappointed in The Golden Compass, here's our second chance.

Frank Frazetta's Savage World

More here.

Not too incredible Shrinking Man

Enough with the comedy remakes of cool scifi properties. It's not attractive on Land of the Lost and it doesn't make me want to see The Incredible Shrinking Man either. I mean, Eddie Murphy? Honestly.

Robot McGee explains fine art

Is fine art a mystery to you? Never fear. Now there's a robot who will explain famous paintings to you. Sort of.

Steampunk Star Wars action figures

Somebody give this man a job designing these things so they can be mass-produced and I can buy them.

Steampunk anthology

This sounds like a must-have and Bookgasm's interview with the editors is a must-read if only for the numerous recommendations of other steampunk books.

Giant Styrobot

Pretty self-explanatory actually.

Giant monster attacks inevitable

Why oh why will no one listen to the scientists?
We can say with certainty that there will be a giant monster attack on Washington DC within the next twenty years, and that this monster will probably pee on the Jefferson Memorial...
Wake up, people!

Giant robot imprisons cars

And it's not like we can rely on our giant robots. They're already turning against us!

Stupid scientists plan giant, buzz-saw-wielding, "fire fighter" robot.

This is going to go horribly, horribly wrong.

Kim Jong Il unfolds into giant robot

We're all doomed
.

Outlander poster

On a lighter note, the alien vs. Vikings vs. giant monster movie Outlander now has a poster.

Super Robot Red Baron

"Red Baron is a show that's all about chunky-looking giant robots fighting each other and thrashing lots of model buildings, which is a formula that's pretty hard to find fault with."

Couldn't have said it better myself.

Thundercats, Ho!

I guess Thundercats Season 2 is available in the UK now or something.

Adventureblog Theater: Elvis loves Wonder Woman, KITT helps the Hoff pick up girls, a dancing stormtrooper, the Happy Dalek Song, and more

Like the Art(ist) of the Day deal, I've got a huge backlog of these to get through, so I'm going to start doing multiples. It'll be like The Twenty, only good!

Saul Bass Star Wars

I think everyone's pretty much seen this one by now, but just in case...

The Wonder of You

Elvis loves Wonder Woman

Jump in My KITT

The Hoff wants to take you home.

Dancing stormtrooper

I guess working for Darth Vader must not be so bad after all. This guy seems pretty happy.

The Happy Dalek Song

But not as happy as this superior being. Things that bother you never bother him.

Doctor Who Weakest Link

Maybe the Dalek's happy about being on the Weakest Link.

The Awesome List: Bond poster, politics, Jason Statham, Hawkman, and the New New KITT

Quantum of Solace poster

Larry Young for President

I really don't plan on talking politics here, but this quote from comics publisher Larry Young is too good not to share:

"If I got installed President, I'd send out ambassadors to every country in the world and, at the same time, have them deliver the same message to the governments they spoke to: 'Holy shit, we are REALLY sorry for all of that crap we've done since, oh, let's call it 1990 for easy figuring, and if you could just give us a little time to sweep up our shit, we'd sure appreciate it. We've got the bomb, and all, and we'll still fuck your shit up if you look at us funny, but all of that other crap was bad form and like I said, we apologize. Go back to what you were doing, and we're going to get our shit together and we'll see you next year. In the meantime, enjoy this Lynyrd Skynyrd song we're broadcasting from all our spy satellites, and we'll see you in 2009. Our bad.'"

Jason Statham for Superhero

As long as I'm quoting people, here's an awesome one from Jason Statham who would really like to play a superhero:

"I’m trying to think of what would be a good comic book character for me to play. You know, there’s talk of them redoing The Crow. That was a good movie with Brandon Lee, although that was years ago. So if that one comes my way, bang! You know, there’s so many comic book movies out there and most of the time there’s only a handful of people who can do them any justice. Hopefully, they’ll come my way for one of them."

Hawkman on The Batman

I'm not a big Hawkman fan or anything, but dang he looks cool. And he'll be even cooler voiced by John Doggett.

The New New KITT

Will Arnett (Gob from Arrested Development) will no longer be the voice of KITT in the new Knight Rider series. Due to a conflict of interests between his spokesperson duties for GMC and the Ford-sponsored TV show, he's stepped down from the role and is being replaced by Val Kilmer.

I get what the producers are doing with the Mustang and the rough voices, and I'll probably like the show more that way, but I sort of miss the sleeker car with the British accent.
