LXB | March Madness: Snake Plissken vs Frank Martin

For the first three weeks of March, we're going to answer the question, one match at a time, of who would win if 12 movie tough guys were airdropped into an abandoned city and only one could escape.

This is the hardest fight to call yet. So far, the Round 1 bouts have been unevenly matched, but Snake from Escape from New York and Frank from The Transporter are pretty close to each other in terms of badassery.

I think Frank probably has the upper hand for straight-up fighting ability. It reminds me a bit of the Bruce Lee/John McClane fight. Snake's an awesome scrapper, but Frank's got more moves.

The difference between this bout and that first one though is that Frank is no Bruce Lee. I don't imagine him dominating Snake the way that Bruce Lee would John McClane. He'd make it awfully tough on Snake, but in the end he's beaten by Snake's resourcefulness and willingness to do whatever it takes to survive. It's a close fight (and I'm willing to be argued with), but I think Snake would take it.

Snake, definitely. I like the guy who plays The Transporter, but I will always go with Snake.

I could be wrong, but I don't see Rutger Hauer anywhere...

You're right! Which character(s) would you include?

My favorites of his (John Ryder from The Hitcher and Roy Batty) don't feel right for this tournament. Maybe the Hobo or Nick Randall from Wanted: Dead or Alive?

Nick Randall, or maybe Harley Stone from the awesome, semi-Mythos Split Second?

How have I never seen Split Second? Just added it to my Watchlist.

It is apparently pretty hard to get a hold of through normal (read "legal" channels). Actually, in a brief search I did not see any Torrent offerings. Here is a link to the trailer, though I think it does not do the film justice. Granted, I have not seen it for 20 years, but it really stuck with me. I may have it on VHS still... Hmm.

BTW, has Blogger removed the "get post updates by email" thing? I can't really tell from my blog, as it won't ask me there.

In setting up the bracket, the only requirement I really had was that the character had to be human and also had to have spawned at least one movie sequel. Conan has been mentioned as my glaring omission.
