The Force Will Be With You. Always. (No, Really. I Mean ALWAYS.)

In spite of the snarkiness in the title of this post, I really am very excited about this. Progess on the Star Wars TV show continues to be made.

Star Wars producer Rick McCallum told the BBC that they're planning to create at least 100 episodes of the series. That's kind of a no-brainer actually, considering that 100 episodes is what it takes to get a TV series into syndication, but it's good news for Star Wars fans that the producers are planning big. A hundred episodes works out to about 5 seasons, but there's no reason to think that the show wouldn't continue as long as there's an audience for it.

They hope to begin filming the show in 2008 (once George Lucas is finished working on the next Indiana Jones movie) and have it ready to air that same year. It'll cover the life of Luke Skywalker in between Revenge of the Sith and Star Wars (which I'm old and cranky enough to refuse to call A New Hope). Unfortunately, it doesn't look like they're expecting any of the movie actors to be in the show. There are rumors about Anthony Daniels maybe reprising his role as Threepio, but that's probably just hopeful speculation.

Sounds peachy keen to me. Too bad about the stars, though. I've grown to love them and will now how to cozy up to these new comers. Ahosh be gosh.

needless to say, i'm excited for the show (i hope i get to do the card set!! heh) and i'm sure i'll love it no matter what ---- but i am a little disappointed it's going to deal with luke skywalker. i was hoping for new characters. i feel that now they're going to give luke this spectacular, super-interesting backstory, and that sort of ruins the original movie, because he's supposed to be a farmboy with a boring life (up until "new hope" happens).

plus, if they're gonna feature obi-wan on tattooine, they should really bring back ewan mcgregor.

bleh.

i would've been happier with a show that chronicled boba fett's life.. luke skywalker just seems to important to the movies to screw around with on an ongoing tv show.

Crap. I hadn't even thought of that.

Maybe they'll go for the teen angst angle. Show him all lovesick over Camie and jealous of Fixer. They could call it Dawson's Dune.

I too share some apprehensions over the show now that I know it's going to focus on Luke and be the "Smallville" of Star Wars. "Smallville" is fun and all, but oy.

I was really hoping for unknown characters that would effect (background, anyway) the movies and then hope for cameos of people like Vader and Obi-Wan. But, we'll see what happens...

Eww. The whole "smallville" thing is starting to freak me out. Please, please. Don't let it shadow the "smallville" show.
