Hellbent for Letterbox | The Furies (1950)

Pax and I watch another Barbara Stanwyck western, The Furies, this time directed by Anthony Mann. Also, I watch a little more 1883 and Pax reads Hailstorm, a comic by Rafael Scavone and Rafael de Latorre.

With the mention of "Duel in the Sun" and that "The Furies" was based on a novel I went and looked at stuff in Wikipedia.

Turns out that screenwriter and novelist Niven Busch wrote both "The Furies" and "Duel in the Sun". "The Postman Always Rings Twice" as well - so he sort of did quite a bit in noir-ish material and complex dysfunctional romantic relationships.

It's funny, because Pax brought up the Duel in the Sun similarities, but neither of us realized they were written by the same author until after we recorded. And I didn't know about The Postman Always Rings Twice until you told me. :)

I like the movie Postman better than Furies and Duel, but have issues with it, too. I think I am going to have to read at least one of Busch's novels to see what I think of his stories in that format. I'm all onboard for complex dysfunctional romantic relationships, but suspect that novels might be the better place to explore them. The question is: Which book to start with?
