Artist of the Day: Sean Galloway

I didn't fully appreciate the Humanoids Herculoids as a kid. See? I even got them confused with a publisher of European comics. (Thanks, Christopher Mills!)

What was wrong with me?

I think you mean, "Herculoids."

I loved that cartoon. A jungle-dwelling family on an alien planet and their pet monsters fighting off different space invaders every episode? How could you not love it?

Gah! I'm such a dunce.

Yeah, I always liked it, but wasn't as fanatical about it as I was, say, Thundarr the Barbarian. I don't know what that was about.

Well, I'm not *quite* old enough to have watched them on TV, but back in the 80's, when I was in my 20's, I found a VHS tape with a half-dozen or so of the 15 minute episodes, and really enjoyed watching them. Like many 60's adventure cartoons, they're very repetitive, but the designs by Toth are just amazing.

I'd love to try my hand at a contemporary Herculoids series, but as it's owned by Warners now with the rest of the Hanna-Barbara library... oh well.

Did you read DC's "grown-up" take on Space Ghost? I think it was Joe Kelly who wrote it? They were supposed to do more of those. I wonder what ever happened to that idea. A Herculoids one would rule.
