I never thought they could ever film the graphic novel it is based on.Kalhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00663751053844271849noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7857882.post-71641582453083652452014-04-11T12:38:15.270-05:002014-04-11T12:38:15.270-05:00I think it's accurate to describe Avengers as ...I think it's accurate to describe Avengers as a peak. I've enjoyed the post-Avengers Marvel movies so far, but that was amazing and I don't know if they'll be able to top it. I'm kind of not even daring to hope that they can.

I like your idea about stocking up on some of the previous summer's blockbusters to watch during the winter months. When November and December are all super-serious Oscar-bait and January and February are dead, it would be nice to have some fun stuff to watch at home. But really, it peaked with The Avengers for what I felt I needed to see in theaters. Now that movies are going from theaters to home media in less than six months time, it was easy enough to just stock up on this past summer's blockbusters during the winter months. We know we're going to get a couple of Marvel movies each year (and I think they said they may even ramp that up) and with everyone else wanting to do that too (DC/WB, Sony's Spider-Man movies, etc.), it's only going to get bigger and crazier.

I'm just impressed that Marvel has been able to maintain the quality they have with their schedule. I have very little interest in the new Spider-Man movies, but Marvel keeps doing awesome things.Michael Mayhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12514945570212261283noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7857882.post-69238093052048492352014-04-07T20:25:18.367-05:002014-04-07T20:25:18.367-05:00Its funny you should mention superhero movies sinc...Its funny you should mention superhero movies since I just got back from seeing "Winter Soldier".

I remember the summer of 2003 when we had Daredevil, Hulk and X-Men 2 out and thought that would be the the apex of comic book movies, when really its only gone up from there. Now we're at the point were we can have such vast degrees of quality even in the films that are considered "good".

Its actually kind of comical when ever I hear a news site or podcast talk about how the following year is going to be THE BIG YEAR for comic movies, when really they just keep coming. The suggestion was that if you were a good fan of superheroes, you were supposed to go see everything - including Steel and Catwoman - because that was somehow sending a message to Hollywood that we wanted more superhero films.

That makes no sense though, because if it's sending any message at all, it's the message that we'll support whatever garbage Hollywood wants to spew out as long as it has a superhero.

Your approach is smarter. Support what looks interesting you. Period. There's no need to throw money at stuff you're not interested in in hopes that Hollywood will somehow read your mind and make stuff you WILL like.

Thanks for the suggestion of The Wrestler, by the way. I'll add that to my list.Michael Mayhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12514945570212261283noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7857882.post-87486009249349761492014-04-07T07:06:47.236-05:002014-04-07T07:06:47.236-05:00I wouldn't necessarily call myself a fan of hi...I wouldn't necessarily call myself a fan of his films, but I have noticed a trend in his work to depict people who are devoted to their craft, particularly performing arts. "The Wrestler" is one such example and doubles as great character piece. Thats what I would recommend as a follow up.

Admittedly, I'm a bit iffy on this interpretation of Noah. The trailer made it look like your typical "natural disaster movie" with the Biblical backstory tacked on for name-recognition value to increase sales, which is why I wasn't really onboard with a lot of my peers who were in the camp of "go see this film if you want to see more support faith-based movies".
