Sleigh Bell Cinema | Ernest Saves Christmas (1988)

Merry Christmas! It's Christmas Day, so to celebrate that and complete the first season of Sleigh Bell Cinema, I'm joined by the very funny Jeff Somogyi to talk about the very funny Ernest Saves Christmas. And Christmas Tree buying. But mostly Ernest, Santa, a homeless girl, a polite TV host, and the world's greatest agent.

Congratulations on completing the first season of Sleigh Bell Cinema! It's been a thrill hearing you talk one on one with friends and family about your favorite Christmas movies with such unreserved love and reverence.

This episode was especially fun. The joy you and Jeff have for this movie is all but tangible! I got a good laugh when you discussed how sincere Jim Varney plays this character is but never say that Ernest is "earnest".

It's a pity we can't have a Christmas team up between Ernest and Buddy the Elf. Then again that may be too much!

I haven't seen this movie since I was a kid. I loved it then and but have been hesitant to rewatch it as a cynical adult. I want to hold on to that cheery nostalgia just a little longer.

Though I can say without doubt this does give us the greatest movie Santa ever! Douglas Seale plays him so gentle and compassionate in contrast to the large and in charge type of Santa we see so often. He gets convicted felons to sing carols, you can't top that! He couldn't be any kinder unless they cast Mr Rogers in the role!

I'm already looking forward to next year's season. My parent's Amazon Echo says she has a list of over 500 Christmas movie recommendations so theres still plenty to choose from! If nothing else I know someone will come on to do a show about Die Hard to settle the debate once and for all!

If you have space on your nice list I'd love to be on to get the chance to completely gush over something next season!

Merry Christmas!
