31 Days of Dracula | Leslie Nielsen (1995)

I'm usually a big fan of Leslie Nielsen (Wrongfully Accused is one of my favorite movies of all time), but I passed on Dracula: Dead and Loving It, Mel Brooks' attempt to cash in on Bram Stoker's Dracula the way Robin Hood: Men in Tights had cashed in on Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves two years before. I know Men in Tights has its fans, and I didn't despise it, but I also didn't think it was very inspired or funny. The trailers for Dead and Loving It didn't convince me that it would be any better, nor does the 9% rating it has on Rotten Tomatoes.

Still, Nielsen can make me laugh by just standing there, so he makes the 31.

I saw Dracula: Dead and Loving It at the perfect age where Mel Brooks was uproariously funny.

Returning to it when I was older, however, it didn't hold up nearly as well as other Brooks' films I still find funny.

I saw "Dead and Loving It" again a couple of years ago, and I found it almost as funny as I did Back In The Day.

Howeever, that may have something to do with my loathing of the grossly mistitled "Bram Stoker's Dracula" starring Winona Rider which gets directly mocked in many scenes.

Never watched this, as I am just afraid that it would be sadly disappointing.

Yeah, I knew this would probably be on the list.

I not much to report really. The funniest bits are the ones that you've seen done better in other movies.

I would be one of those Men in Tights fans of which you speak. I love it BECAUSE it's uninspired and stupid.
