Adventureblog Gallery: Giant, Fiery Vampires

Your Marvel Classics Comics Cover of the Day

Tarzan

By Frank Frazetta.

Warning: if you click on that link, you'll never want to visit the Internet again because your online life will be complete. So much amazing Frazetta/Burroughs stuff there that you'll freaking cry.

Also, why haven't I read the Carson of Venus stuff yet? That looks like it's so right up my alley.

The World of the Giant Ants

By A. Hyatt Verrill.

Kong

By Cedric Hohnstadt. (Found at DrawerGeeks.)

Your 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea Picture of the Day

By Alphonse de Neuville.

AvP: Checkmate

By Benjamin Parry.

Moondog Master

Or is that Star Staker? How cool would it be if "The Man Who Staked the Stars" was about a guy who discovered that stars were actually giant, fiery vampires? That sounds much better than the alternative: a story about real estate.

Michael--

As a Burroughs fan for most of my life, in one way or another, I highly recommend his Venus adventures. They are favorites of mine.

His character of Carson is a lot of fun, an atypical ERB hero in that he makes lots of well-meaning mistakes and frequently doubts his own courage and ability. Similar to Carl Kolchak, perhaps, Carson Napier doesn't seem to realize what a true hero he really is.

Great stuff.

Wow - that really looks like Oliver Platt rightmost on the Musketeers cover. Prescient!

Martin: Thanks! I'm off to Amazon to see what's available.

Grandpaboy: Ha! I hadn't noticed that but it totally does! Platt's my favorite Porthos. :)
