Warrior Women Wednesday!

Wonder Woman?Wonder Woman movies

So, rumors have been flying about who's playing Wonder Woman in the JLA movie. At first, everyone was sure it was Teresa Palmer from The Grudge 2 and December Boys, but then they were all, "No, it's model Megan Gale." So, you know, business as usual.

That's Palmer over there to the right, looking much more like Wonder Woman than she does in her IMDB gallery.

Unfortunately, producer Joel Silver confirmed that the JLA movie has shoved his potential Wonder Woman solo flick to the back burner for now. I see a couple of ways of looking at this.

One is that Silver's been having a hard time getting Wonder Woman going anyway and JLA is a convenient excuse for shelving it for now and maybe coming back to it later.

The other is that this is confirmation of the Jeff Robinov Debacle. Even though Silver is citing JLA as the reason they're holding back WW, the team movie doesn't seem to be stalling plans for solo Green Lantern and Flash movies. The fact that all three announcements were made within days of each other sort of highlights the disparity, so maybe I'm making connections that aren't there, but we don't really know what's been behind Silver's difficulties. Is it just the movie-making biz in general or is it a specific mandate from Warner Brothers?

But let's not forget the other JLA movie

Some more details have been leaked about the direct-to-DVD, animated Justice League: The New Frontier movie. In addition to a release date (26 February), TV Shows on DVD has the skinny on who's voicing who, including some dream casting for me: Lucy Lawless as Wonder Woman.

Wonder Woman gear

The blogosphere is buzzing about these cool Wonder Woman tiara and bracelets from Bleu Arts. And This Next has a whole list of other Wonder Woman merchandise you can buy. Some of it's stuff I've seen before like the statues and whatnot, but there are also silk robes and glasses cases and journals and party supplies and all sorts of nifty things.

Designing Wonder Women

And speaking of Wonder Woman loot, Project: Rooftop's latest contest is to redesign Wonder Woman's costume. First prize is the Lynda Carter Wonder Woman statue, a signed Wonder Woman issue from new writer Gail Simone, a Wonder Woman action figure, and a $25 gift certificate good at the Zeus Comics Online Store.

Black Canary on Smallville

I just quit watching Smallville week-to-week in favor of catching it season-by-season on DVD, and now they go and schedule Black Canary (played by Alaina Huffman) to appear in a January episode. I'm feeling like a bit like Al Pacino in The Godfather III here.
