Speaking of Which...

Good genre comics coming out today. I'm going to try to do this every week (probably on Monday or Tuesday after this), but I won't usually be including super-hero comics. I read super-hero comics, but as a genre they don't particularly influence my writing.

Horror
Necromancer #3
Sea of Red #7
Night Mary #4

Science Fiction
Y: The Last Man #40

The third issue of Conan and the Demons of Khitai also comes out today. I'm buying this series based on a love for Conan stories and the impressive Asian art, but I'll be waiting to read it until it's completed.

A couple of new genre titles that come out this week that I'm curious about are Looking Glass Wars: Hatter M and Robotika. I'm a fan of Ben Templesmith, who illustrated Hatter M and online buddy Jaco Hanley lettered it, so that's my interest in that. I'm not especially a fan of Alice in Wonderland, which I've always found to be a little too weird for the sake of being weird.

Robitika is one of the first non-Artesia titles (if not the first one) to come out of Archaia Studios Press. ASP was started by Mark Smylie as a self-publishing house for his fantasy series of graphic novels and I'm so in love with the Artesia books that I feel the need to at least try other stuff that Mark feels is worth trying, even if it's as high-concept as "steampunk sushi samurai western." Sometimes, the concept is so high you have to wonder if there are any characters or plot worth investing in, but I'm trusting Mark here.

Did you buy Robotika? I've got a copy coming to me through DCBS, but Alex Shiekman sent me the 16 page ashcan he had for the SDCC this year.
Great stuff!

Kinski says ... I go tthe Robotika too at SDCC ... and it's beautiful. I need to get the issue myself. I'm sure the local store didn't carry it though... Ha! Ask me again why Wickline changed stores....

Well, now I'm a little embarrassed that I passed on it. I didn't like the art, actually.

The back cover is amazing, but the insides didn't grab me like I'd hoped they would.

I almost passed on Hatter M too, but a couple of Ben's character designs were intriguing and made me want to know more about them.

I'll be interested to see it coloured. The ashcan was B&W. The colour preview pages I saw on Newarama looked pretty good, though. The second issue is in this month's Previews. Order it up, Joe!
